After the death of her husband, Harriett married Emanuel Hallman 11 May 1853 in Stephenson Co. IL. Emanuel was born 27 Aug 1832 in Middleburg, PA. Emanuel was a blacksmith and farmer. He entered the Civil War from Dubuque, IA on 10 Dec 1863 and served in Company D, 38th Regiment, Iowa Infantry; transferred to Company H, 34 Regiment, Iowa Infantry, the two Companies were consolidated on 1 Jan 1865. Emanuel was discharged 15 Aug 1865 as a Private from Houston, TX. Emanuel died 30 Jul 1923. He and his beloved wife Harriett were laid to rest in Phelps Cemetery, Decorah. Emanuel and Harriett were the parents of: Samuel, Sarah, Judith, Philena and Eugene.

Samuel (15 May 1854-11 Apr 1936) married Lucinda Strayer 10 Feb 1876. Sarah E. (27 May 1857- 2 Jun 1938) married John R. Kirkland 6 Apr 1884 and went to Trent, SD. Burial in Trent. Judith C. (Jan 1859-5 Sep 1932) married 1. Fairfax Wellington Limbeck; 2. John Cahill. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Taskaloon, Province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Philena Agnes (31 Jan 1861-1 Dec 1952) married 1880: 1. John Limbeck (d. in 1885); married 2. Edward Limbeck, John's brother. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Ossian, IA. Eugene (9 Apr 1864-20 Oct 1944) married Alice Palmer 27 Mar 1866. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo, IA.

Tyler, Spencer and Eileen (Lee)

Eileen Vivian Lee was born 22 Apr 1916, the daughter of Knudt K. and Hilda (Vick) Lee. She married Spencer Robert Tyler (b. 5 Mar 1914) in 1940. Spencer and Eileen had 3 children: Linda Kave (b. 7 Apr 1947); Gary Lee (b. 1950 - d. 1950) and Steven Robert (b. 22 Jul 1951). Spencer died 30 Mar 1989.

As you can see from the following newspaper article, Eileen has dealt with multiple sclerosis for many years and successfully raised a family at the same time.

Steven’s mother of EVERY year. . . Mother of the Bride. May, the month of Mother’s Day, holds many pleasures this year for one mother, Mrs. Spencer Tyler of 836 Loretta Ave. Mrs. Tyler went to a meeting of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Black Hawk County recently to discover that she had been named the society's MS Mother of the Year. Her reign and the Multiple Sclerosis Fund campaign begin today and end on Father’s Day. Coins for the fund are already accumulating in the Tyler living room. There will be identical ones displayed in restaurants and other public places this month.

Mrs. Tyler was diagnosed as a multiple sclerosis patient six years ago. Since then she has seen daughter Linda off to college and will bid farewell to Steven in the fall when he leaves for Iowa State University at Ames. She still manages her home with the help of her husband, whom she describes as “a wonderful husband, a wonderful father.’’ With the aid of a walker she can get about her home and as far as across the street. The heavier chores are left for evenings when her husband and son can help. Mr. Tyler too is active in the MS Society, currently serving as chairman. Daughter Linda, 22, will receive her diploma from ISU on May 24 and become the bride of Phil Shriener of Pella the same day. With graduation ceremonies at Ames in the morning, wedding rehearsal in Waterloo in the afternoon and wedding and reception in the evening, Mrs. Tyler had decided to pass up the pleasure of seeing her daughter receive the diploma. She’ll be on hand when the marriage certificate is handed out, though. With 17-year old Steven graduating from West (Note: refers to West High School in Waterloo) and leaving home, Mrs. Tyler expects her home to be lonely, but for now she barely has time to reflect on it. This is a special month for mothers and an especially special one for Mrs. Tyler.” (Waterloo Courier, circa 1970).

Eileen presently lives in Memphis, TN near her son Steven.
